The Athens Fibercraft Guild meets on the second Tuesday of the month, 12:30p, September – May, at the Lyndon House Arts Center, 211 Hoyt Street, Athens GA 30601. For the 2020-21 year, we are meeting via Zoom. If you are interested in attending the February Zoom Meeting, email Linda Greiss at email@example.com.
Our program this month, Tuesday, February 9th at 12:30 p.m. will be presented by AFG member, Erika Lewis, on “Guatemalan Textiles”. Guatemala is one of the most populated countries in Central America. Its largest ethnic group is Mayan (47%), an ancient civilization that forms the core of modern Guatemala. The country has survived through many tragedies, yet through it all the art of Mayan weaving survived, bolstered to a large extent by groups like WARP -Weave A Real Peace – offering humanitarian support.
The Athens Fibercraft Guild welcomes all amateur and professional fiber artists including knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, fabric designers, basket makers, quilters and embroiderers who share their talents. Although meetings are normally held on the second Tuesdays of the months September through June at the Lyndon House Arts Center, 211 Hoyt St., Athens, GA and feature programs about the fiber arts, we now meet via Zoom. Members are sent email invitations to join the meetings.
