The Athens Fibercraft Guild meets on the second Tuesday of the month, 12:30p, September – May, at the Lyndon House Arts Center, 211 Hoyt Street, Athens GA 30601. For the 2020-21 year, we have been meeting via Zoom, but for the May meeting, we will be meeting in the Lyndon House Arts Center Community Room. If you are interested in attending the May Meeting, you will need to RSVP to Linda Greiss via text/phone at 678-772-5138 or email at

Our Tuesday, June 8, 2021 meeting will be held on Zoom this month starting at 12:30 p.m.  AFG is very privileged to have Tapestry Weaver, Tommye Scanlin, as our Speaker! Tommye is a Professor Emerita, University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, where she taught in the visual art department for twenty eight years. She’s also taught many workshops at Arrowmont, John C. Campbell Folk School, and Penland.  Her teaching career spans four decades and she’s worked with people of all ages, from children to older folks. She combines her love of teaching with an active studio practice. Her program will feature the two books she’s written in the past three years. One, The Nature of Things: Essays of a Tapestry Weaver, is about the reasons and inspirations for her art making practices. The second one, soon to be released, Tapestry Design Basics and Beyond, describes how the fundamental elements and principles of art/design apply for the tapestry weaver. In it she’s used the many handouts  developed over decades of teaching as a starting point. It is enlivened with many works from over forty artists that illustrate how the fundamentals of design are found in their tapestries. After the program we will have a short business meeting and Show N’ Tell.

The Athens Fibercraft Guild welcomes all amateur and professional fiber artists including knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, fabric designers, basket makers, quilters and embroiderers who share their talents. Although meetings are normally held on the second Tuesdays of the months September through June at the Lyndon House Arts Center, 211 Hoyt St., Athens, GA and feature programs about the fiber arts, June and July meetings will meet via Zoom.  Members are sent email invitations to join the meetings.
