Athens Fibercraft Guild welcomes all amateur and professional fiber artists including knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, fabric designers, basket makers, quilters and embroiderers who share their talents. Meetings are held on the second Tuesdays of the months September through June at 12:30 pm at the Lyndon House Arts Center, 211 Hoyt St., Athens, GA 30601 and feature programs about the fiber arts.  Everyone is invited and is welcome to bring any fiber craft that you have made for show and tell.  There will be an opportunity to join the guild if interested.

Textile designer and Screen printer, Sara Parker will be our guest speaker at our March 12, 2019 meeting at The Lyndon House Arts Center, in the Community Room at 12:30 pm. Since 2010, Sara has been crafting a range of screen-printed fabrics, with her husband Simon, exemplary of flora, fauna, shapes, and colors local to her home and studio in rural Georgia. Continually sourcing organic and sustainably-milled base cloth, Sara’s lively patterns migrate the outside in, with a feeling of comfort and care for our environment.

In the fall of 2018, Sara founded Maylene, a new venture to pursue her enthusiasm for creating happy, functional, and idiosyncratic accessories from her collection of beautifully hand-screen-printed textiles. Sara’s husband, Simon is the co-owner of Sara Parker Textiles and Maisilene. Simon and Sara both graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. When Simon’s not printing, he’s also the head of Database Maintenance at the University of Georgia Libraries. Their textiles have been featured in Southern Living, Design Sponge, and Apartment Therapy. Check out Sara and Simon’s textiles and products at Sara Parker Textiles.

Bringing together professional and amateur artists alike, the Athens Fibercraft Guild is home to a network of knitters, weavers, spinners, fabric designers, quilters and other fiber artists.  Text inquiries to 678-772-5138.
